Christmas
Party 2008
Thanks so much for your continued interest in Phil's books. Three years ago we decided that proceeds from this website would go to help those who need it more than we do. And thanks to you, we were able to provide Christmas dinner, a day of fun, and a message of hope for 500 needy children in the Philippines this past December. This was done through one of our favorite organizations, Action International (they've been doing this for years). Read about Phil's son Steve and his adventure with Action in Uganda. See more pictures of the party here. Below is another story of what your support helped us build last year.
Christmas Miracle 2007
A
HUGE THANK YOU to the hundreds who have ordered Phil's books. Because of
sales through this site, we've been able to build a home in Uganda each of the
past two Christmases. I don't say this to
impress anyone, it's just that Ramona told me that our money isn't ours, that
it's not about us, that we were blessed to
be a blessing, that we're to do unto
others what we would want done to us (I hate it when she talks like that!) and
so this is the result. The first home was built this past year for Mathias
(pictured to the right in front of his old house).
Mathias has been partially crippled since
birth. His father died when the boy was very young and Mathias walks with great
difficulty. His mother works part-time whenever she can to support Mathias, his
three brothers, and sister. But they have no land, of course. Their water source
is contaminated. And their house, well, you can see for yourself the shape of
it. Though Mathias was trying to look brave in this picture (you can see his
walking stick in the background leaning against their old hut), the family
seldom has enough to eat and Mathias attends school each day with hunger gnawing
at his stomach.

Enter Compassion. And you.
Today, thanks to your patronage of this website, Mathias and his family live in a tin-roofed stone house with a new blue door. The home has a pit latrine, and an innovative water system that catches rain water from the tin roof and purifies it. Though we haven't been there to visit Mathias for ourselves, we are told "he celebrated the Christmas season with his family in a wonderful new home. For him it is truly a miracle." Mathias' mother says, "For long we thought even God had neglected us, but now we have seen the real love of God."
A friend of mine was showing pictures of her home in Canada to people in Uganda. Far in the background of one picture, was her garage. The Ugandan pointed to the garage and asked, "Who lives there?" My friend stammered a little. "My car," she said. "To whom much is given, much is required," the Bible tells us. We have been given much through friends like you. Please know that your support of this site and your book orders will continue to benefit those who need what so many of us don't even want.
